The Justice League movie fast and racy
Justice League movie is a mashup of characters
Team YBhere watched the first-day first show Justice League movie and it was great. It’s fast, it’s enjoyable and has generous amounts of humour thrown in (not as much as Thor Ragnarok, but it’s there). And mainly focuses on getting the band together and not much on their backstories, which would have stretched the movie quite a bit. Also, Batman V Superman may have brought in the money, but it was all downhill after the opening weekend, mainly because it was choppy and failed to entertain. And a whole slew of changes followed in the Warner universe.
Back to the movie, it picks up right from where Batman V Superman ended. The Man of steel is dead and the world is in chaos. Lois Lane and Martha Kent are connecting. Diana Prince has a day job, and Wonder Woman is fighting crime. Bruce Wayne aka Batman is still grumpy and brooding. But that doesn’t stop him from running around the planet trying to recruit superheroes. The Flash is an easy convert. As seen in the trailer… you have seen the trailer right? Anyways here it is…
Victor Stone aka Cyborg and Arthur Curry aka Aquaman aka take their time to join the band but eventually come around. They quickly introduce the big bad of the film Steppenwolf who is voiced Ciarán Hinds, and the Justice League gets ready to do battle, without their big gun. At this point Barry Allen aka The Flash admits that he has never done battle – just pushed some people and run away. Then there is the scene which re-introduces Superman and the movie hall erupts (that’s not a spoiler. Is that a spoiler for you? really? A Justice League Movie without Superman – is that even possible).
The film doesn’t really get into the origins of each of the character, maybe because there are too many of them and would have taken forever or maybe their solo films will deal with that bit. But, a quick glimpse into their origin would have been good for the uninitiated. It would have given new fans a primer into why they should root for the newer member on the cinematic Super team – Cyborg, Flash and Aquaman. The Batman, Superman (Mans of Steel) and Wonder Woman already have their backstories covered on screen.
In their hurry to start the fighting (which is a good thing) they didn’t do justice to the main villain of the film. I didn’t really connect with Steppenwolf, he simply wasn’t menacing enough for me. You are supposed to be a supervillain, act like it. The heroics of the protagonist become even more heroic in the face of insurmountable odds, I never really believed that he can defeat the Justice League let alone taking over the world.
If you are going for a deep psychological thriller which leaves you questioning reality – Don’t go.
Recognise the film for what it is – it is a superhero film with lots of CGI, great big sets and the good guys are pummeling the bad guys. It has many great characters that you already love (Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman) and many new characters that you can (maybe) love. Gal Gadot as the Amazonian princess Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman is the best part of the film as she was in Batman V Superman. Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill reprise their roles as Batman and Superman respectively. Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa and Ray Fisher take up the mantle of The Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg respectively – and were convincing. I am excited to see what they will do in their standalone films.
Go watch the film and d do let me know what you think of it.
