An IMAX Theatre is a Huge Movie Experience

IMAX theatres take the whole movie experience and multiply it by 10

I am a movie buff, and I am a sucker for big screens. I even watched The Monkey King 2 in Mandarin because it was playing in an IMAX in the Shaw Theater on Orchard Road, Singapore, luckily dialogues didn’t play a big role. I remember watching Superman Returns in an IMAX Theater ages ago when Delhi/NCR had an IMAX theatre in Pacific Mall. The huge screen was amazing and upped my benchmark for a movie viewing experience. Alas, good things don’t last forever and that theatre shut down a few years later. So, when I came to know that IMAX theatre was opening in Noida at Logix City Center, just behind my backyard – I was over the moon (along with the bloody cow that jumped over the moon, you know from the nursery rhyme).

Promptly, I bought my ticket and a bucket of super expensive popcorn and was thoroughly underwhelmed. The screen of an IMAX theatre seemed smaller than my 50 inch TV. I could not believe how dissatisfied I was, so I bought another ticket (I forget which movie it was). And yes the feeling was the same – it was still a shitty experience.

Fast forward to June 2017 – I managed to catch a show of Wonder Woman in a real IMAX theatre, it’s was the AMC on 34th and 14 in NYC . Yes, I was blown away by the experience and yes, the movie is amazing and Gal Gadot is amazing in the movie. But what took the whole experience to the next level was the sheer size of the screen, the awesome acoustics of the theatre and how the technology aided in the storytelling.

If you are wondering what’s all the fuss about, chances are you have never watched a movie in an IMAX theatre. It’s not just the humongous size of the screen and that makes everything pop out, its how the movie is shot to bring it onto this screen.

I now am gearing up to see the latest instalment of Star Wars Franchise, The Last Jedi, in the newly opened IMAX theatre in Select Citywalk, Saket. Let’s hope the new IMAX theatre isn’t a disappointment like the IMAX theatre in NOIDA. Let me know if you have been to the IMAX theatre in Select Citywalk.
